Biography

Luke has an M.A. in Linguistics from the University of Iowa. Through his work as a researcher and instructor, Luke has gained valuable experience in designing and conducting experiments, analyzing data, presenting findings, and using empirically tested methods to guide language instruction in the classroom. He speaks English, Spanish, and French, and loves to find new ways of taking the language learning experience out of the classroom and into daily life. 

Specific Responsibilities

  • collaborates on community outreach and engagement initiatives (e.g., Iowa Intersections)
  • co-manages Culture Bites Café
  • assists with design, development, implementation, and evaluation of Spanish GEP courses
  • provides support to Spanish, Portuguese, and Latin American Studies
  • serves as liaison to TAs in the Department of Spanish & Portuguese

General Responsibilities

  • designs and develops instructional materials, evaluating the effectiveness of strategies/pedagogical approaches
  • consults and collaborates with faculty/staff on projects, events, and other pertinent issues
  • administers and manages ICON
  • manages instructional support facilities, assuring facilities are in compliance with health and safety regulations
  • advises Director on budgetary needs to discrepancies
