The CLCL is a great place to host an event! Our space in PH120 has abundant seating, audio/visual equipment, and a kitchenette, allowing for a wide range of event types like movie nights, poster sessions, meetings, guest lectures, cooking demonstrations, and more!
To reserve this space and begin planning an event, contact Director Claire Frances (claire-frances@uiowa.edu). Claire will walk you through planning your event, collecting details as you go, so even if you only have a rough idea of what you want to do, contact us to begin this process!
When do I need to initiate the planning process?
As soon as possible! We recommend no later than two weeks before you would like to hold the event. This will allow time to ensure the space is available, to acquire all materials needed to host the event, to promote the event, to plan for staffing to record the event, etc. However, you can contact Claire Frances (claire-frances@uiowa.edu) any time to begin planning your event!
How does the CLCL assist with promoting events?
If given enough time, the CLCL can create promotional materials for your event. This includes flyers, digital signs, University Events Calendar listings, social media posts, etc. Request this service as you are planning your event to ensure timely creation of materials.
Can I have my event recorded or photographed?
Yes! Given enough time, we can organize to have your event recorded or photographed by CLCL staff. With recording, we ask that you keep two things in mind:
- The time that your event is being held may affect whether CLCL staff are available to record or photograph your event.
- The CLCL does NOT provide captioning on recordings as our staff may not be familiar with topics, names, and themes discussed at your event. However, we can train event organizers on how to caption using UICapture to expedite the captioning process.
What funds and/or resources are provided by the CLCL?
The CLCL does NOT provide funding for events. This includes utensils, paper plates, paper towels, etc. When planning, you will consider your budget and where that money is coming from.
